I have seen many many modern coins with red spots. there is not a single first spouse coin design that does not have them the UHR also has them the buffaloes have them, the pandas the krugerrands. the royal mint coins. The mint can say whatever it wants but all gold coins tone and get red spots. Humidity has everything to do with it. Buy some FS gold keep it in high humidity for a year and then come back and tell me if it doesnt have red spots.

When the red spots first appeared the mint claimed it to be oil left behind. since they dont have an explanation they cook up a new story every time time the old one fails. just as an FYI the red spots far exceed the 999 surface area of the coin. google it you will see a lot of images and a lot of explanations.

For those interested in gold toning

whatever stops brass, copper nickel, copper, silver, from toning does not stop gold. Intercept shield fails miserably. I am trying a few experiments should any of those be successful I will report back.

Red spots and gold toning are two different subject i haven't never heard anyone say it is due to toning, you can post and bump the thread on this subject.

when I lived state side I thought so to but unfortunately that is not the case but I still don't have the missing link all I know is all existing technologies fail to protect gold in a humid environment. I argued with gd for years but my views have changed 100% in the last 4 years. if I could just recreate the red spots in an accelerated form or make the whole coin blood red it would become easy but the darn thing stops. also after it stops it never starts again. and now you will laugh some red spots turn blue after a certain amount of time others don't as if it were toning. I believe I posted that in that other thread.

my only grouse in all of this is that the mints of the world should be honest with customers instead of misleading them and if I am able to prove my theory someday then it will benefit all the buyers who will get their spot evaluated on par with toning (gd and I disagree on this) in fact the red spot if covered completely should give the coin a significant premium

oh well we can all dream :)
