I didn't do the pricing. The person, whose name I made up in the title, did all the pricing so far. This is a mere draft an we are only trying to figure out the layout of the book. That is why I came here.
@Colby J., thank you for your prompt responses, and I'm sorry too that things have gotten a little heated at times. I think it's nice to be able to take a step back and catch our breaths. It is not my intention either for this thread to turn into something other than constructive/helpful criticism. I think that's what we all aim for, even if we sometimes fall short of our ideals. I hope there are no hard feelings between us.
Sounds good I will no longer be commenting unless I'm needed. I tried responding to every question even though there was a little too much constructive criticism. Thank you for understanding how I feel through this all. Most would lash out and act weird since this is the internet--so...greatly appreciated man. If you don't mind I'd like to keep some updates on how the book is going, just to make sure the numismatic community is ok with it all--minus the illegal stuff.
I’m confused, you say you are writing a book in your first post and then in the above post you say it’s only a PDF available on your website but you also say you are talking to a publisher? Also, you said you are writing a book in your first post but then later in the thread you said someone else is writing it. If you want actual help you need to be straight with people.
This is completely honest feedback so take it how you want it. In October you couldn’t identify one of the most common and recognizable ancient coins (see post above) but now you are writing a book on the subject? There are people on this site (and not on this site) who have been collecting and studying coins for 50-60+ years and have not written a book (although they certainly could). having an interest in something, and I applaud you for that, and being an expert are two completely different things. Also, how many metal detecting trips do you make abroad in a three month period? Just curious.
I've been into coins since I was 8. What's your point? Isn't that plenty of enough time to go on detecting trips with my buddies? And plus, I'm an Italian citizen so 3 of my trips have been based out of Italy. And two have just been goofing off. And yes, Roman Imperial coins is new to me since before I did republic coins. But I mean, I learn fast. Im a well-known member aren't I? In three months I've moved up the ranks...I must be doing something right! You don't have to like my style, but can you just deal with me? Writing a book has been my passion since 14 and I'm really not going to let you convince me otherwise.
Honest question Colby. The first quote above says you are an Italian citizen and the second quote says you have a coin shop in Red Bluff, CA that you inherited from your Grandpa who was active in Numismatics in the US since the 80s. So you must have dual citizenship. Are you based out of CA or Europe? It seems you’ve been in Europe most of the time you’ve been a member considering you made this shocking find in Germany back in September. One reason I am curious is that I was going to ask the name of your coin shop? I am in California a lot for work and I’m always looking for coin places to visit.
everything..., even your your last post a few minutes ago is pretty questionable... "I'm an Italian citizen" i sort of doubt that, "Roman Imperial coins is new to me since before I did republic coins" doubt that too
My grandmother's father never naturalized. So she got the citizenship, my mom got it, then my brother and I got it as well. My father can get it as well, but he only needs two take the language test. I don't even need to explain the other one.
At this point I'm just going to advise everyone to walk away from this thread. No good will come from continuing except to tempt the moderators to come in here and get people in hot water. We've already had Ken Dorney banned, I couldn't stomach it if Joe, Alegadron, Curtisimo, or someone else of the people I look up to and admire in this hobby were to have a similar fate. Just walk away, folks.
why not? you said "I did republic coins" If I were to post a coin from the roman republic, would you be able to tell me what it is?
