The Almohad Caliphate was the last Islamic Caliphate to hold Iberian territory. They were a Berber tribe in North Africa which came to power after overthrowing their Almoravid rulers. Under their leadership, Islamic armies saw terrible losses to the Christian kingdoms in Iberia, shrinking Muslim holdings in the peninsula to a confined area in the south. In 1238 Iberian Muslims had enough, and seized power to form the Emirate of Granada, the last Islamic kingdom in the Iberian peninsula, which collapsed in 1492 under the forces of Ferdinand and Isabella.[/QUOTE]</p><p><br /></p>
