All I can go on are the email my dad had with the Grader’s supervisor when the change happened which clearly states that “SP” would stand for “Special Strikes”. If you want to further examine the issue, I would suggest you look at Coin Facts at the link below reference the so called 1964 SMS Kennedy half dollar. Jaime Hernandez writes several paragraphs on this so call coin and the descriptive phrase “Special Strike” is repeatedly use (LOL) but the word “Specimen” is not used once (still LOL). I suppose that now that I have pointed this out, someone from PCGS will be running around changing Coin Facts!
