Jefferson Nickels seem to be an overlooked series. As for modern coinage I think RPMs, Double Die and other varieties have a future.

I think that those 2005 satin mint sets will be something. Maybe buy rolls of satin finish coins on Ebay. But don't bid against me!!

Is 2005 the only year the mint is going to have satin finish sets?

Nope - according the the mint's press release - all future sets will be satin finish aslo.

I agree with GDJMSP but would also say nothing can ever change the fact the 2005 set was the FIRST YEAR set! It will be a keeper!

how would you buy rolls of satins? Since they only come in mint sets, the only leftovers would be from dealers who cherry pick certain denominations and roll the rest. Each roll would require cutting open 40 or so sets.Don't look for them on ebay any time soon. ;)

    Put together a Type Set

I started a Type Set last year and it has been a real challenge trying to find the coins to go into it. Not only does your collection contain new coins but very, very old coins as well. Some are totally out of my budget but it is fun learning about them anyway.

I am sure the coins in a nice type set will go up in value. But it cannot compare to the wealth of knowledge your grandchildren will gain by studying them.

Almost all dime and quarter rolls from the last forty years and many
of the half and dollar rolls come from mint sets. It usually takes a few
years before you start seeing them, though.

Plan on seeing a lot of them - looks like the mint is gonna sell well over 2 million sets this year.

STATE QUARTERS PLATED IN GOLD FROM COIN SHOP!

Personally, there are some really fab world coins out there that are undervalued. And if silver prices soar to $60/oz (I'm sorry, had to say it), there will be many melted. In any event, as the big silver distances itself in the rear view mirror, I think there will be some real future. But who knows? It's all a coin toss, no pun intended.

Is there 2005 Kennedy half rolls in satin finish? Doesn't the mint carry it anymore?

Hello, well certainly not an authority, but i've watched my collection of Sacagawea rolls double, almost triple in value in the last year and a half. The 2001-S proof has gone from $25 to $100 in just the past year.

I don't know maybe it's just a fluke.. but i like them, and the $500 I have invested so far, seem to be worth about $1400 according to the 2006 Red Book.

    my $.02 or gold :)

The mint never did offer rolls of halves with the satin finish. They did sell the rolls of half dollars, but the coins were regular circ strikes. The satin finish coins were only sold by the mint in the mint sets.

Reason I asked was they're selling 20 coin rolls of this satin finish on Ebay and was wondering whether its legitimate? I would like to take couple of rolls to hang onto.

They probably are, it's just coins that have been removed from mint sets.

Satin finished mint sets means you will not be able to purchase a set of regular business strike coins from the mint in the future.
