Slabs and fire.

    When I was researching safes I couldn't find information on exactly what slabs were made of. My best guess is PET, which is safe at 350°. However, some other clear plastics will melt as low as ~210°. Acrylic melts at 266°. Plastics will get soft at much lower temperatures than that. So to be safe I placed my slabs inside a Honeywell 1102 media chest inside a fire safe. It was worth the extra $40 for peace of mind.

    In addition to the threat of fire (appears to be more than a possibility here) there is also the threat of disasters (natural and otherwise). All you can do is the best you can do. Getting super anal about things will just drive you crazy.
