I have to find it funny that it was the government that had the U.S. go to paper money in the first place, now they want it to go back to the coin system. Maybe the fact that people like the paper dollars is because they like their wallets, and they only will work for bills. :-D

Exactly! Walmart had a 'One per person" policy.Made the coins seem rare. They should have just pulled all dollar bills out of the registers and used the coins. Imagine how many would have gotten into circulation. The Government failure was the "Golden Dollar"advertizing. You wouldn't believe how many people still think they are holding Gold coins. :headbang:

    Blasphemy, Sir:

I will say, technically, there is no difference between currency, specie (coin), checkbook money, credit card, debit card. . .etc. None of it is money, all of it is debt. In that regard they are the same. Only difference is appearance.

With a smart card, and no currency or specie, the gov't can track every purchase we make, when we made it, and whether we got a deal or not. I suspect most people won't care, but I do.

Coins and cash are not archaic, they represent freedom of choice in the strictest definition.

Besides who wants to collect smart cards? Although we humans will collect anything why not those too?

Look at your own perspective! What do you carry, dollar bills or SBAs and SACs?

If its FRNs (federal reserve notes) why? Probably because it's lighter (foldable), doesn't clink, paper can represent any denomination (one FRN = $100 versus 5 $20 gold coins), and won't fall out of your pocket as easily.

People prefer convenience over any hardship if there is a choice. If the gov't wants to encourage dollar coins, eliminate the dollar bills.

Well I mostly carry FRN. Why, because you can'y get the dollar coins. The local banks don'thave them.
