Birth year set are always popular but oftentimes only appeal to the person who has that particular birth year. I decided to do something a little different. I combined my birth year, 1952, along with my interest in World coins and especially Silver coins. So I selected World Silver coins which represented my birth year but with a slightly different twist. I would go back every century and find a coin minted in the year ending in 52. Starting with 1952. 1952 Dominican Republic 25 Centavos 6.25 g of 0.9000 Silver, 0.1808 oz. ASW Obverse shows the national Arms Reverse shows the profile of a native princess Mintage 400,000 1852 Brazil 1000 Reis 12.750g of 0.717 Silver, .3757 oz. ASW Mintage 196,000 1752 Mexico Real 3.38 g of 0.7170 Silver for a 0.996oz ASW Obverse shows the Royal Crowns This coin struck in Mexico City 1652 Livonia-Riga Solidus Livonia was a former province of Russia currently partly in Latvia and Estonia Conquered by Sweden in 1628 and ruled until 1720 1552 Hungary Denar Hungary, Ferdinand I (1526-1564), Denar, 1552, Kremnitz Mint . FERDINAND . D . G . R . VNG . 1552 . Shield of arms in inner circle PATRONA . * . VNGARIE Radiate Madonna and child in inner circle, K | B across fields 14mm x 15mm, 0.45g, Silver c1452 Sicily Denaro Billon Coin contains a trace of silver but mostly copper or bronze. Minted during the reign of Frederick III. Called the Peaceful, he was the Holy Roman Emperor of the House of Habsburg from 1452 until his death in 1493. So now all I need to do is find something from around 1352,1252,1152,1052, and 52AD. I will then have an example from each AD century. My problem now is the research. Hopefully one of my fellow members will be able to steer me in the right direction. Now that I have shown how easy it is to put together a really unique birth year set, why don't you try it yourself. The best part is I have less than $100 total invested in these coins.
I agree! I would to look to see how many centuries from 1950 my coins go back in time. Again Great idea.
Brilliant idea! I think I might do the same thing myself now. Seems like a good excuse to amass world coins.
Type Set? That would be a very nice collection. Could be pricey depending on the grade you are trying for.
I am not gonna get all of the Baden coins (just the ones with griffins on them). I want an XF-UNC thaler with the griffins and a VF-XF 2 thaler with the griffins. it's the 2 thalers that are expensive and rare and very hard to find.
