In another thread on Christian-themed coins the site of the Twin Cites Ancient Coin Club was mentioned: http://home.comcast.net/~wdaehn/TCACC/index_files/Page430.htm The article by Chris Freeman on Byzantine anonymous bronzes is excellent: http://home.comcast.net/~wdaehn/TCACC/OtherDocs/AnonByzBronze.pdf The composite image by Tom Barbeau about Byzantine copper is wonderful: http://home.comcast.net/~wdaehn/TCACC/OtherDocs/ByzantineCopper.pdf In that one big image you can see what Byzantine copper can be like. If there are other sites on Byzantine coins that you like, post them here.
Warren, you cannot believe how much that means to me. I know I can never give back to the hobby as much as you, Doug, and some others, but I am glad to hear you believe it is a worthwhile read to those not familiar with these coins. I will also let Tom know you liked his presentation.
The British Museum Catalog of Byzantine coins is old and in the public domain and not up-to-date, but it is a reference work that you can have. You can download its pdf (images of pages only) in various places. I took the pdf and played with it using a pdf markup program (iAnnotate) and inserted bookmarks so navigation is easier. If you'd like a pdf copy with bookmarks so you can go from text to plates and back more easily, you can find it here in my dropbox public folder: Volume I is first, then Volume II. The files are large (because they are images of the pages of thick books)-- 21 and 17 MB. https://www.dropbox.com/s/vi2qnx36o7nnkaa/Wroth I BMC Byz.pdf?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/rtcl57gar73agqw/Wroth II BMC Byzantine.pdf?dl=0 When I view it, the top says, "To edit on your computer, click "open"." Do that so you can see the bookmarks. Make sure you have the bookmark viewer enabled. I bookmarked emperors by their copper coinage (not their gold) because that's what interests me.
