Silver Hemiobol Boar Lion; Mysia, CYZICOS This coin caught my eye in a recent auction. I bought it as an unsold lot to show my family in Arkansas. Many of them are Arkansas Razorback fans. The coin was minted in weights from 0.3 to 1.5 grams (at least according to examples shown on acsearch). There are plenty of examples of this coin. Post examples of your obols, hemiobols or hog coins. MYSIA, Kyzikos. Circa 480 BC. AR Hemiobol Obv - Forepart of boar left, showing both front legs, lower tusks, ears & bristles raised; behind row of dots, on R tunny fish upward Rev - Head of roaring lion with spiny mane, left; star to upper left; the reverse should be within incuse square, but not much of the square is showing on this small coin. 0.35 g 7 mm Die axis 6 SNG France 375 I am not sure of dating but similar examples online are listed from 480 - 375 BC. Does anyone here know an on line link to SNG France or other references that include this coin? This is a really small coin. I knew that when I bought it (.35 g & 7 mm), but in hand it is tiny. There are lots of details on such a small piece! I bought 3 coin in this auction. You can see the size difference on this coin on the right compared to the RR denarius shown on the left.

Nice! I had wanted one of these for a long time and just won this one a couple weeks ago. Not in hand yet.. hopefully it gets here soon. Mysia, Kyzikos. Circa 480 BC. AR Obol (8mm, 0.81g). Forepart of boar left with tall mane and dotted end point, E (retrograde) on shoulder; to right, tunny upward. / Head of roaring lion left with bristling mane, outstretched tongue, and dotted end point, all within incuse square. Von Fritze, Nomisma IX, Kyzikos, Gruppe II, 11 / Tafel V, 13.
Seems mine is more like BMC 121: Kyzikos, Mysia. Hemiobol. After 480 BC. Head of roaring lion left, retrograde K above, all within shallow incuse square / Forepart of running boar left, tunny fish swimming upwards behind. BMC Mysia, 121 I guess I should pay more attention because the auction house clearly got it wrong. Doesn't bother me none though... still a type I really wanted.
Nice little capture @rrdenarius Mysia Kyzikos AR Hemiobol 480-450 BCE 0.4g Boar-Lion retrograde K, Sear 3850
