I only used marks that are on both coins in the exact same locations with the same shape. They would have had to come from the die for them to match up as well as they do. As far as using the reverse to prove my point, what would the chance be that the nicks and dings would be matched on the Obv and Rev if this was not the same die pair that created the error on both coins? My next step will have to be to send both coins to PCGS and have them looked at. If they can say the same die pair was used to make both coins and that this is an "Error Progression," would you then accept that I may be right? I think selling the pair flagged as an "Error Progression" from the same die pair could demand a premimium over what I have now. (Even though I don't want to sell them.) I'm also going to call my coin dealer and see if he has any other of the 6 coins or if he can remember who he sold any of them to. I'll HAVE to buy them if he can find them. It's only been 18 years... he should remember, right? He MAY have had one or more of the others graded. Does anyone know if the coin description is contained in the number or the barcode? If so, does anyone know if I could get any information from ANACS about the coins graded at the same time as this one? Thanks, Ben (I'm-out-of-ideas-of-how-to-prove-my-point) Jenkins
seems to me like somethin stuck to the obverse die and several coins were made before it fell off or was removed.
Ben, I sincerely hope that you prove me wrong, but I really think you'll be wasting your money. Please let us know the results. Chris
That's what I said in the first post, but Chris doesn't think the 2 coins were made by the same die and that the error in almost the same location is just coincidence. I do understand why he would think this as the lines in the 2 errors do not run in the same direction. I saw all 8 of the error coins back in 1992, but only had money to buy 2 of them. Chris and I are not fighting, we are just using what we know about coins to state what we think of the 2 coins I have. Chris is much smarter than I am about errors and I'll be the first to say so. He says the coins on their own are not enough proof to say that the errors came from the same die. I'm trying to use the coin marks as proof that the 2 coins came from the same die. So far we can only agree that I have 2 error coins that have the same kind of error in about the same position on the coin. I'm not sure if I can ever prove my point, but I'm trying! Ben
