silver bullion in plastic bags?

Came across a few silver bars the other day and a few of them were sealed in plastic bags, i.e. Engelhard.

Did some reading and apparently that's considered a good thing. Why? It looks fairly ugly (to me), and makes it more difficult to measure such as a specific gravity check.

If you want it in plastic, why not an airtite or other removable container?

    Thoughts?

sometimes original packaging has more of a premium than airtite or removable cointainer
