I agree, however I'm also partial to the 2003 design and have it on my want list after I get a $50 Republic of Texas note.

My favorite 2002 reverse proof, same obverse design featured again this years coin. This 2002 reverse proof was only available in the Legacies of freedom set that was sold by the US mint which included a 2003 silver eagle with the Britannia. DSCF3321.jpg

nothing like reading a post from the past and than the wheels start to turn. After reading about Britannia again today I looked at the three that I have and than went to ebay and won a 2011 for $43 w/free ship. Can't wait to see her and have her join the others.

    Tater,

Have you had any of your britannias graded? I've noticed the graded ones seem to have a premium on them and I'm contemplating sending mine in to PCGS, I just don't want to send them in and see them graded low.

I have not sent any of mine in to be graded. The graded one that I have in this thread was bought that way. Cherry pick out the best ones, you should get 69's if they look good. Maybe others on this thread have. Maybe take some good pics make a thread and see what others think they will grade.

On a side note I received my 2011 in the mail today. I like it, I'd like to see what a proof looks like in this date.

Have you been tracking the cost of high grade Britannia's, I wonder if the premium is worth the cost to grade.

Using my new photography technique I took another pic of the 2010 Britannia, as seen previously in post 30.

Wow! You did a great job of showing the contrast between the mirrored and frosted parts.

Sure do like those proofs better than the business strikes.

I will admit to cheating in order to remove all the imperfections. Specks of dust, hair and even the reflection of my camera lens.

2001 Proof was much harder to clean up, seeing as the polished part of the coin is the detailed part.

Is anyone thinking of purchasing the 2012 Nine Coin half ounce coin set? Sure looks pretty but at that price I won't be getting one any time soon.

Didn't even know such a set existed ^^

Just had a look, they're not even proof. :(

You could buy all of the 1 ounce UNC versions for less than the £500 they want. You would end up with twice as much silver as well.

At £92 the proof 2012 coin is just far too much and I have no idea where that price has come from. I might never own another proof Britannia. Last year they were £67. Silver hasn't changed that much in 12 months to warrant a £25 increase.

I was thinking about buying the 9 piece set, but the price is a little bit much. I like the low mintage of 2,012, but with the current exchange rate the price would be approx. $655 here in the US.

    eddyk,

the Mint's website states "958 Britannia Silver Proof Quality" so I assume they are proofs.

  20. I think this will make the earlier releases more collectable even though intrinsically they will be less valuable than the new .999s. Watch for even higher mintages in the future as well. TC

I thought that I should share a few coins with you folks as you have done. I have a 2007 on the way and should have it Monday.
