    Could be a coat of mercury that was applied many years ago.
    Wash your hands.

    Keep this in mind..

    If it were truly struck on a Silver Planchet let's say made for a Mercury Dime or Washington Quarter it would be the same size, width and weight of the planchet it was intended for.

    How did this coin get a D mint mark? In your other thread it’s only a 1957. It’s still plated. And that means damaged. Why two threads. The answer is the same. It’s PLATED!!
