Sell the coin - In a way, we are in the same boat. It looks like I'll be selling a business that I started about 3 years ago. This means of course that I'm hunting a job, and to do that, you need a car.

Ugh, Im' going to regret this. But I think with my new job I will be able to buy another down the road..

The problem here really lies in I Just graduated from a training school. I ride a moped and I can't go more than a few miles on it since its not fast enough for the freeway. So finding a job in my area is very hard...with a car I could go anywhere. That would expand my jobs by alot. And I'm guaranteed a job, they are helping place me in one.

How should I sell it? Ebay? Should I advertise it on coin boards?

In this economy, you should drop to your knees and kiss the ground that you have a guaranteed job. I'm in the process of selling my entire collection (not just one coin) in order to provide for myself and my family. It's tough in the real world.

You really don't know how good you have it ..do you?

Give your mom a hug and say...you're right, mom. I'll do what I have to do. I don't know how you would ever regret man-ing up and taking responsibility for your future.

It's not like you parting with the only handwritten copy of the Magna Carta...keep it in perspective.

Isn't there a fee you have to pay if you get paid through paypal, where they take a % off of the amount you get paid? What types of payment should I take? Is paypal good?

Or am I wrong with this? I'm going to try and sell it on the boards, hopefully for $1600.

Someone earlier in the thread said there's a dealer bid out there for $1605 for this coin... if you want to sell for that I'd contact that poster and ask how to sell to that dealer!! Good luck!

No possessions are more important than your life, your health, the ones you love. I have sold a lot of coins because at that point I had to, I was just thankful that I had something tangible that could be cashed out - not like some Blu-Ray player or something.

The main reason I want to sell it is because of the profit margin. I can get more than 2x I paid for it right now. I only paid around $750 for it.Plus, even mark feld says on his website that it's a good idea to sell too, to know what it's like.
I will probably not buy a car with it right away, I need more practice driving in an actual car. I'm not used to driving a car, because I ride my moped. So I will probably go on my parents insurance for awhile, drive their car to get used to it, then buy a car. The profit margin is huge here, I could make alot of money. I could also save the money for later when I need it to buy a car.

Of course, I love the coin to death but the potential profit I can make selling it is worth it to me. I can always save up when I get a job and buy another. And I'm definitely going to buy another down the road.

I've been there myself. I once sold off a nearly complete type set of coins from the 19th and 20th centuries (nothing "super"--just basic designs, no 19th-century silver dollars, and everything was mainly in Good-Fine grades, but still...a very nice collection) just to have some extra cash on hand when I wasn't earning any income in my mid-teens. It's tough to part with your coins, especially the ones with which you have attached some emotion....

Sell the coin, buy a safe car, may you have happiness and stability in your job, and may you someday be able to buy back a similar coin with the spare change you set aside. All will be well....

Looking at NumisMedia price guides (That's wholesale right?) it says the price for a MS64 NGC 1908 N/M saint is $1900.

Isn't that a little high? Do you think I would be able to get $1700 for it if I advertise it on the boards? I don't want to sell it for too cheap, I want to get the right price for it. But I'm not too sure what to sell it for.

I sold a set of Russian gold back in 2001, back when Russian gold was trading at not much above melt. Now if you look at the prices on the 7.50 and 15 rubles coins I wished I had sold something else instead. Crazily enough I have not really desired to buy the Nicholas II gold coins again, instead to replace them:

Just a lot nicer looking, larger sized coin. Except for being gold, it is way out there in my collecting realm, but I love the design.

Better things come down the road. This coin was from the Nordic gold hoard.

Sell the coin on EBay for max profit. You can auction the coin for faster sale or list the coin with a fixed price if you are not in a hurry. Here is a website you can calculate all the fees:

    http://www.newlifeauctions.com/calc.html

You can ask the buyers pay by Echeck through Paypal so you do not have to pay the Paypal fee(need to pay maximum $5 to clear the check).

My first coin mentor would always tell me that "that coin will come around again", or in other words,, have some patience and perspective to coin collecting. I'm sure you can buy a similar, if not better coin when your flush again.

I appreciate the honest feedback guys but I decided to not to sell it...I don't want to sell something I would regret and even though I could buy another once I save up again, its not for me.

    Please let this thread die.
