    Thanks all!

As I am about to leave for Washington, I probably will not be able to post until I get back.

I will continue this after I get back,

I have to take some pictures of coins from an uncleaned lot of Carthage I bought a couple years ago. I have a couple different styles of the "galloping" horse. I still believe that the "gallop" is actually the horse in flight. I think the horse they try to convey is actually the pegasus. I think about weather the pegasus was a flying horse or a winged horse....its funny how that came up again.

I found this thread a pleasurable read and the coins are fascinating.

I would also look at coins with the same catalog numbers, with the same obverse and reverse motif, but on different shaped flans. For example. Globular, disk and truncated flans, with huge weight ranges. I bet there are many more coins that have been collectively given just one catalog number.

    First, I want pictures :D

    :desk:

I can say one thing for sure...

    Not a Pegasus!!!

    Full explanation coming later.

    Thanks :)

I've got some more research to do before I can post on the following:

I'll be getting to those later...

    Ripley's coin definition:

    Carthage
    Siculo-Punic Mint
    370-325BC
    Head of Tanit left
    Horse galloping right
    11mm, 2.6 grams
    VF - Minor Damage
Sassari 56-136, Holleman Munten List 106

    Thanks Ripley :thumb:

The reverse type is taken as Horse Prancing or Horse Galloping.

I believe that the three main reverse types of this issue are:

The first type is the Horse Rearing.

    Ripley’s coin shows this well.

The second type is the Horse Prancing.

My coin is of this type.

The third type of these is where you can’t tell.

The G&N coin is of this type.

    Update!!!

I have gotten the permission of Forum Ancient Coins to use their pictures in my Study. :D

Other than this, I haven't had the time to study anything else, as I have been in Washington (last week) and catching up on school work.

I am now collecting samples for this Study.

If anyone has any of this type, please post pictures with weight and diameter

    Thanks!

I've been paying close attention to these types...

To my knowledge, none of these types for sale meet the standard of the x6 collection.

A study of this general issue...

I'll be doing weight, diameter (esp. that which the dies were made for ;)), designs, etc.

It's just an issue I am very interested in.

    But will probably use for an ANA/School Paper ;) :D :D :D

I've now set a pair of Targets:

This Paper will be mostly ready (I will continue adding to it, but otherwise a full paper) by May 27th.

This is to enter it into: http://www.money.org/blog/posts/2013/april/9/yn-literary-awards-encourage-young-writers.aspx

A briefer form would be then entered into the Heritage YN Essay Contest.

    Talked about here: http://coins.about.com/b/2012/07/07/heritage-announces-essay-contest-for-young-numismatists.htm

Bit off topic, I have already entered the latter with an essay on how I started... Should get the results any day now (I can't wait!)...

WC, I assume you're in the 13-17 range. The only part of that contest that I find odd is that bibliographic citations are recommended but not required. By that age, I would expect a writer to be able to use both footnotes and a general bibliography. I would encourage you to do so, as anything else is less than professional when it comes to academic papers. If you'd like any help by way of proofreading, let me know.
