I messed up my previous post sorry....

Justin Lee was asking about the background on my photo...... what you are seeing in the background here:
    CrispusMERGE.jpg

is the base from my digital camera - which is really just a webcam. Just plugs into the USB, can zoom in and out, has a light, etc:

    scope.jpg

They are only about $40 on Amazon. Are they any good? Well they are handy - really quick digital image.. comes with software to enhance the image, etc. I have a large 23" computer monitor so I can see really good detail on screen.

Drawbacks? Well the light is coming directly down - so that works great for some LRBs but you get reflection from silver. I turn the light off and use other light sources for those. But you can get some OK results:

I think it's a good, quick, cheap set up. But you would not get the detailed results or resolution that I see from some of the contributors on here with professional (more expensive or maybe just smarter?) setups I suppose. I know less about photography than ancient coins...

As for the blue? Why that is a Tupperware lid of course!!

Thank you Victor Clark, what's the RIC number of this coin?

The RIC number is the same, it does not change because of the workshop.

Your coin is laureate and cuirassed, with no drapery.

I'll add a coin I picked up yesterday and is the compatriot to the Valentinian II that I posted yesterday.

Because of the poor quality of the above coin depictions, I have included photographs of the following similar (Trier Mint) Killingholme Hoard (Northern England) coins:

No, it's Constantine I with a Sol reverse. It looks like it's from Arles.

    Question:

Where do all of you believe Late Roman coins begin? I was just wondering. I have seen some start with the tetrarchy, others with a period around the middle of the 3rd century. Not that it matters much, but we are coin collectors and tend to categorize stuff.

Myself, I tend to toss imperial coins from the tetrarchy on into LRB boxes, and any provincials and pre-tetrarchy imperials into Roman boxes. I recognize there is overlap there, but cannot get myself to put the very last provincials issued under the tetrarchy into LRB boxes.

Am I weird? What does everyone else do?
