There were a number of sovereigns that sank with the USS Central America in 1857 - so they were still being used to pay debts or for services by England.</p><p><br /></p><p>Not doubting your statement about your great great grandfather, but was asking for clarification on what you were actuall talking about - $5 value on a full sovereign or a 5£ sovereign.
