Leadfoot, is that graded? From the pictures it looks like a lock 66. The coin is nicely struck, and the leg isn't remotely fuzzy. The luster appears to be pleasing, the head is well detailed, and there is seperation on the hand. Nice coin!

Mikjo0,that is a very nice Proof Walker $1/2 you have got there.I can guess that U.S. Proof coins this old are quite scarce.

Am I right in saying so?

Very nice, folks! Walkers are awesome. I only have a few, and this is the only one I have a picture of:

That's actually a copy from a privately released 1936 "tribute" set, FYI. Proof coins of this era and earlier are not really scarce, in that they're not all that hard to find...most dealers and coin shows will have plenty...but nice examples can be expensive. Of course, it depends on the coin. Proof cents and nickels from around this time and later can be relatively inexpensive, but dimes and higher denominations start at around a few hundred dollars for nice ones. And for earlier coins, although the proofs were made in much lower mintages than business strikes, a lot of times, they're not necessarily priced that much more than a business strike of similar quality and vintage. Again, individual dates/denominations may vary.

XpipedreamR,thank you for clarifying this, but what was the purpose of the 'tribute' set?

XpipedreamR,that replica Proof-like Waker is EXTREMELY deceptive. If it is marked somewhere that it is a replica, then it doesn't breach the relevent fair trading legislation. If it isn't marked, then that National Collector's Mint crowd is for the high jump.

LOL..I was wondering how long it would take someone to come up with that.Good eye there xpipedreamR.That's why I couldn't show the reverse which has a big "COPY" stamped on it.
I bought the set a few years ago because the nickel, dime, quarter and half are .900 silver and they are actually quite good copies.

Mikjo0,so the National Collector's Mint are not in breach of the law then. They are good as .900 fine silver bullion scrap.

Yes,as far as I know, they are in full compliance with the Hobby Protection Act of 1973.You can see the word Copy stamped on each "coin".Sorry for the blurry pic but my camera's batteries died before I could get a good shot but I think you can see it if you click twice. It's hard to see where they are on the nickel and the dime but they're there.

Mikjo0,that is a very good photo, the word 'COPY' is extremely clear on the 'Quarter',but not so clear on the other pieces.

Still drafting a reply to You zaneman for you calling my Bud Jeff a "scum bag". But first tell me about how did he beat you out $700.00?
Did he not offer a return policy?
Did he not respond to that return policy?
Is his phone number not public knowledge?
I think the term "scumbag" should be reserved for "Baby Rapers" and you owe a public apology!! Go look at your self and you posts!

That sounds fair to me Roy. At the moment the only thing I will add is Jeff's comment.

    " Hi John,

Well maybe I told you that I spend zero time frequenting the Web chat places on coins. I am aware that I get trashed out there occasionally. I choose to ignore it. Those few who have "LOST" by buying PCI coins (or raw coins) from me or anyone else are the guys who are out there on the web looking for "rips" to send in to PCGS or NGC to make a quick killing. They get mighty pi..ed when their "rip" ends up in a PCGS holder that often trashes the value of the coin because of the overly harsh PCGS cameo judgment (and getting harsher). Those that play this game are foolishly (and blindly) faithful to the concept that PCGS and NGC are the ultimate gods of all coin values. I disprove this stupid notion constantly. There is a good and fair market for PCI and raw coins that would be graded too harshly at the "gods"...these coins bring prices quite appropriate for what the coin is rather than what a grading tag says!! I told you that I often buy stupidly graded PCGS or NGC coins for the sole purpose of cracking them out to sell in a PCI holder or as a raw coin!

I think that you and I have talked about lighting (especially for pictures). You know that I take a great picture because I use the correct soft lighting for cameos. I think you have probably seen very similar great pictures in Rick Tomaska's book on cameos. Those are taken with the same good lighting. The guys looking for the rips are often not very smart. They should be looking for the casual seller who hasn't a clue how to take a good picture and foolishly puts his coins up for sale with a lousy picture and no reserve! "

I think his photography is the best http://jwcameo.com/

    Zaneman,
Could you show me an example, with photo wizardry, of how to turn a Sows ear into a Silk Purse? In other words take your best proof and make it a cameo. Please show me the before and after.

John,Roy's right.Let's focus on numismatics.Don't make personal attacks on people,as that is not what we are here for.

We are here to discuss our positive addiction, which is coins & banknotes.I can guess that you are taking a good whiff of those freshly printed U.S. banknotes.

    Aidan.
