This story starts in 1942 when my uncle was drafted into the Army. Before going to basic, he went to the bank and pick up this Morgan Dollar. It was a good luck piece as well as never being broke. He carried it with him, all over Europe and carried it until 1965, when I joined the Army, he gave it to me to carry. It went with me to the Dominican Republic in 1965 (82nd Airborne Div) and to Viet Nam (101st Airborne Div.) in 1967 and I carried it since then.
Give me ten more years, and I can post a proof set I got when I was born! But at my current rate of enjoying coins for a little bit and then flipping them, it will be hard for me to own some for 30+ years.
Most of the time they, leave, not to be forgotten, but, most will! As, for me, give it another 23Y. And, I can post one. Maybe this thread will still be here then?
I had a bag of $100 face mercury dimes around here somewhere which was acquired over 30 years ago. Afraid they are all mixed in now with the rest of the junk silver. Does that count? I don't have a picture.
The first coin in my collection. The one that started it all. My aunt pulled this one out of a jewelry box in 1948 and gave it to me. I was five years old. When I found out what it was worth, I was hooked. 69 years now.
