The one in the picture in from 1847 and the other one is 1838. Even though the 1838 is older and shows more ware in most areas, it is a lighter color than the 1947 with less ware. I&#039;m sure there are lots of factors that contribute to toning, but is that the way it usually goes? Is there a good way to tell if a coin has been cleaned or altered by the color?
