Exactly. It is very noticable in big city areas but is slowly happening in small town areas since automation is a little less prevalant there. Around here in Chicago people use plastic for groceries, gas stations, every store I've been in lately. At hospitals, clinics, doctors and dentist offices, pharmacies, etc. Those I know for sure since I visit so many lately. You can't get a rent a car with out a credit or debit card. Less and less cash is being used everywhere around here. Even checks are nothing compared to plastic and many people pay only with checks. I have difficulty using Half Dollars, the new Baby sized dollars and really get problems with a $2 bill. And now there are so many places where you just wave the card by a sensor. Our toll roads are going with something in the way of automation with what they call IPASS. Prepaid tolls and a little thing you hang in your car window. Less coins to count. At coin shows more and more dealers are accepting checks and credit cards. The real big reason cash will eventually vanish is due to intercontinental trading. Why use so many different types of currencies and coins when either one type will eventually be the way to go or all transactions will be automated? Europe is attempting the start of that with one type of currency and the world will soon follow. The future is money less so start saving your antique things called cash now.
