I really want one of these and I've looked for a bit. This one is pretty nice but chunks are flaking off? I'm new to ancients. Help! image.jpg

Broken Patina, really up to you. Its a common coin so another can surface in better shape at any time. The exposed areas could leave you vulnerable to bronze disease depending on the environment you live in.

Also depends on how much it is. Portrait is nice, but would I buy it? No.

Bronze disease? Thanks for your help. I pass.

Pass. That's sometimes called a chipped patina, and as Mat says, you may eventually have to deal with bronze disease. I don't mind worn, encrusted coins, but chipped patinas bother me.

    Looks like paint flaking off.

Its also possible it's had bronze disease in the past and thats why there is those exposed areas. They tend to leave pits after treatment.

Did you specifically want an Agrippa/Neptune as struck by Caligula, or were you looking for a 1st-century larger bronze in general?

    chrsmat71 I LIKE TURTLES!

strange looking coin. i thought it may have had BD two, i'm currently working on a coin that has BD corrosion of the patina, looks similar.

but depends on the price...for..i'd still go for it if the price was very low.

From the selection Mat has given, I would definitely prefer coins that are lower in price than the one you selected. And I would NEVER go for the most pricey one, even for a tenth of it's price

I'm definitely passing on the first one since it might have bronze disease and that might be contagious. How about this one? I like the style of it and it's $38. Thanks Mat for the vcoin search. image.jpg

Should I be searching one, I would go for that one :

A bit less expensive than the one you were intending to purchase, and far better IMHO (and from a nice and reliable seller too)
