Ok I'm not sure how many of you have delved into the Standling Liberty series. But even as a kid I tended to avoid these as the prices were always "inflated". Now I shopping for one for my type set. Of course the type 1 in either date is a key date coin, so more inflation. This is my 4th or 5th attempt to aquire a type 1 and as with the previous attempts I've found a wall.. right up to about 200/xf a full assortment of coins at and below list exist. At that point, AU and above jump too 400 for coins worthy of the grade. The few AU coins you can find near list price are either "detail" coins or xf sliders just not worth the money. The actual AU coins worthy of the grade are generaly asking (and selling at auction) for MS money.. On the other hand once your in MS the prices go through the roof... I could see this on a rare coin, but the 1917 SLQ type 1 is an "R-4 to R-6" in MS conditions according to TPGs and even the redbook... Sorry NO IT AIN'T I call BS and Shananagans. There are literaly thousands of em up for auction/sale Far far too many even if all the collectors suddenly decided to sell this coin off for it to be considered a rarity of even R-2.......

sorry guys...

end rant...

on the positive side... since I can't find what I want/like at a price I'm willing to pay I am going ""RAW"" and have decided on a coin that while I believe cleaned is without a doubt UNC, FH and more pleasing to me then any other coin I've seen under 500. (may the person who cleaned it be flayed, even if he did put it in my price range lol) Of course that also means sending it in for grading, but I got a few others about ready to go in now anyway

At least I have decided to buy it if the auction doesn't shoot up to 1.2k like the last one did lol.... we'll see in about another 36hours lol... (not sharing a pic yet cause I don't trust some of you goobers )
