http://www.ebay.com/itm/301628311100 Not only is the title ridiculously inaccurate, it has about a half dozen bidders. The coin looks like a counterfeit as well.
Same seller..Old Morgan silver dollar coin Queen.. Even worse!http://www.ebay.com/itm/Old-Morgan-...9&pid=100005&rk=2&rkt=6&sd=301628311100&rt=nc
Whenever I buy "Old Morgan Silver Dollar Queen" coins, I make sure to look for: Item Location: 北京市, 北京, China Then I confidently bid top dollar!
Wow, I don't have any Chinese/US/queen of England coins in my collection yet. Thanks for the heads up.
I don't know why anybody's surprised -- the seller's Chinese and the coin's shipped from China... Hello? I think the "British" part is to confuse eBay's Zombie Police -- they aren't exactly the brightest bulbs in the chandelier.
Sorry for being naive, but how can you tell? I would never buy from china of course, or buy from someone with that feedback rating, etc. The title is clearly vague as well. So I'm talking just by the pics, how can you tell? I've seen cruder Morgan fakes that convey forgery right away, but this one is taking longer
I agree. My initial impression was that it was one fugly Morgan, but the coin itself didn't scream "fake." I really need to up my authentication game.
Fortunately, we can all direct-report this auction to eBay, and they'll shut it down quickly. Oh, wait.
Look around the lips, the corner where the neck meets the face and inside the eagle's left wing. The fields blend into what should be a distinct border to a higher relief design. These are typical signs for medium quality Chinese fakes like this one.
