    These are my best.
    They are lovely in hand.

I really like shiny lustrous ancient coins. A bit more expensive but they can look like they were made almost yesterday.

Maybe I should get my grinder out, and buff all my coins...

(I never clean any of my coins)

Muwahhid dobla of Abu ‘Abd Allah Muhammad 1199-1213 AD. The Muwahhids ruled Spain and Morocco. Castile, Navarre, and Aragon defeated the Muwahhids at the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212 AD giving the Christians control over most of Andalusia. No date, no mint. Hazard 506 and superb uncirculated per William Warden’s notes. Purchased by private treaty in 1997. A similar example sold in Triton XX lot#1144.
A youngster compared with the lovely coins above. No wonder it has preserved its dewy youthful complexion.

Not a fan of acetone washed coins *or other methods used to make coins shiny. I get people liking shiny things, but I prefer toning. It's a matter of class (says the Al Bundy of coin talk).
But we all have a few...

    DomitianRSC270Minerva.jpg
Domitian. 81-96 AD. AR Denarius (19mm; 3.16 gm; 6h). Struck 92 AD. Obv: IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM P M TR P XI, laureate head right. Rev: IMP XXI COS XVI CENS P P P, Minerva advancing right on prow of galley (described by some as the capital of a column), holding spear and shield; owl at feet. RIC II 157; RSC 270. The two enigmatic figures on the side of the prow have not been explained to date. From Dressel, Berlin Medallions (published 1973), p. 14, note 1: Cohen 237 note says, "a standing figure and a seated figure". Gnecchi, Medaglioni I, p. 43, 4 says "two small figures, the one on the left seated and the second one kneeling before the seated figure". As can be seen on many of the more carefully engraved specimens [Dressel continues], the first figure is shown seated right, while the second figure kneels before the first figure, with arms raised in entreaty." Flan crack.

Luster is hard to capture in a photograph but here are a few of my favorites in gold:

    Ptolemy.jpg ATGPortrait.jpg RomRem.jpg

The final coin, the Domitian aureus, doesn't appear particularly lustrous in this image as I chose to capture the surfaces (and their embedded color) over the luster.

I hope there will eventually be a straightforward system for capturing 3D photos from a variety of light conditions: the in-hand videos auction houses have been producing are helpful but only go so far and it certainly isn't aesthetic to have a blue glove in your photos.

Here are a few shiny ones I have - some of them look like they were cleaned yesterday, or at least in the last decade or so, others like they've got some vestigest of ancient lustre.

A Cassius denarius - the type that was very rare until a hoard of them made them relatively affordable. Hoard coins, like this, have that "freshly cleaned" look:

    Cr. 500/1

This Ti. Minucius Cf. Augurinus denarius is fairly lustrous - Cr. 243/1:

    C. Aburius Geminus denarius - Cr. 244/1:
