So....</p><p><br /></p><p>Your question got me to organize the pictures of my 1840 mint set.&nbsp; It&#039;s listed in the NGC registry and has been the most complete set there for several years. I like the year in part because there are so many 1st year issues but also because examples of most of the issues can be gathered without spending millions of dollars - including first year and somewhat available $1 and $10 coins.&nbsp; None of these coins are in my physical possession, all are stored in safety deposit boxes - and their value in most cases isn&#039;t astronomical anyway.&nbsp; Grades range from XF40 to AU55 or so. The collection features the somewhat rare 1840 (O) half dollar in a PCGS OGH and half eagles from each of the four mints.&nbsp; The only issues I would like to have and don&#039;t are the 1840 quarter eagles from the Charlotte and Dahlonega mints.&nbsp; They&#039;s too pricey for me right now.&nbsp; And I don&#039;t bother with dimes and half dimes - too darn small!
