I thought I'd get a second set(s) of eyeballs on this before I called "error" on this. It is a worn Severus Alexander AE from Cappadocia, Caesarea with the Mt. Argeaus on an altar reverse. Although much of the legends are worn, it is fairly clear to the left of the bust, and as far as I can tell it is an error: AY K ЄC (error for CЄ). Is this the right conclusion, or do I have the wrong emperor, bad eyes, etc.? I just can't find any legends that match this, but the "CЄ" is correct for the common AEs of Severus Alexander. Severus Alexander Æ 27 Cappadocia, Caesarea ƐΤ Δ = Year 4 (225-226 A.D.) AY K ЄC (error for CЄ?) [OVH AΛЄΞ]ANΔ, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right / MHTPOΠ [KAICAPI], agalma of Mount Argeaus on low, garlanded altar or plinth; Є[T]Δ in exergue. (11.58 grams / 27 x 25 mm) Attribution Notes: Seems to match Sydenham 557; RPC VI 6783 (temporary) However, obverse legend has an error: AY K ЄC (error for CE)? Here are some enhanced views: Thank you! :)
