The coin forgery ebay group has been very busy busting up a group of scammers out of Hong Kong who are stealing auction photos (and in some cases the auctions) from legitimate sellers. Although about 10 different id's have been NARU'd, a couple are still up and running. They are "selling" high grade Morgans in PCGS slabs (usually) and although I can't imagine anyone here falling for this type of scam, these scammers are getting some bids. for instance, here is a scam auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/Morgan-Dollar-1889-CC-ANACS-VF-30_W0QQitemZ280278003790 and the legit auction:http://cgi.ebay.com/Morgan-Dollar-1889-CC-ANACS-VF-30_W0QQitemZ120317658324 another scam: http://cgi.ebay.com/1881-CC-Morgan-Silver-Dollar-1-Coin-Graded-PCGS-MS61_W0QQitemZ280278003359 and its legit source: http://cgi.ebay.com/1881-CC-Morgan-Silver-Dollar-1-Coin-Graded-PCGS-MS64_W0QQitemZ300266003040
Thanks for posting those, Charles! :thumb: I know how hard the CFE Group works to remove the trash on Ebay but they're like cock roaches and until Ebay exterminates them, they will continue coming back and each time, they bring a friend with them. You know how I feel about Ebay's true concerns (making a buck no matter who gets hurt) but anything that can be done to stop someone from getting hurt, is worth the effort and I miss working with you guys! Ribbit
While I was living in Puerto Rico, we had a Cane Toad that lived under the compressor shack at the Dive Shop and every night, I'd catch him eating Tom's food (Tom was a cat that adopted us). That was the biggest and fattest toad I'd ever seen but considering it live on cat food, it wasn't surprising. The toad became a part of the Dive Shop, as much as Tom, but it wouldn't come out except at night so not many saw it. :kewl: I was the "other" toad. :goofer: Ribbit
Yeah and right after that he said "some of them are made by hand" You got to love them hand made coins. NOT!
The seller kketioye and seller counppity have both profited handsomely from their scams, unless eBay voids the sales after the fact. Both now just have some typical junk up for sale. Consider messaging ebay to suggest watermarking images in coin auctions with the actual seller's id to make it harder to steal them? This could be done automatically by eBay and would put a big dent in this sort of thing.
