I'm just curious what some of the so called key dates are on some of the modern government issued bullion series, like the libertad, panda, maple leaf etc. I often wonder when I buy these types of coins if there are dates that I should look out for.
I can't speak for the Panda or Maple, but here are a couple notable low mintages for the Libertad: 1 oz. 1997 - 100k 1998 - 67k 1999 - 95k 2007 - 200k For all of the fractionals from 1/20 - 1/2 oz, the dates 1998, 1999, 2007 and 2008 are all sub 10k mintages. And it's looking like 2013 might be shaping up to be one of those low mintage dates, probably due the lower silver prices than year's past. I've been collecting this series since the late 80's.
I love the design of the libertad and wish i had more than what I do. Thinking about a 5 oz'er any suggestions on where to pick one up at a fair price.
It's one of my favorites as well. The last couple, including the 2013 5 oz., I purchased off of APMEX. They have a pretty decent deal with a little premium over spot.
some of the early kooks had a big premium. not so much now that the mint has back filled some to max mintage. they kinda back- stabbed collectors.
libertad 2012 proofs only 4200 1 oz. no fractional coins made that year. Half are in sets so individual ones are rare.
