I was lucky in a recent auction to pick this Pontus, Neocaesarea AE29 at a very good price as usually sell for a lot more in this condition. All the Severians have issued this temple type in a wide range of varieties some with statues between the central columns or in my coins case a lighted Altar, there is also a variety with five columns. Septimius Severus, AD 193-211. AE29 (29 mm, 15,1 g). Pontus, Neocaesarea. AY K Λ CEΠ CEOYHPOC, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right / KOI ΠON NЄO-KAI MHTPO, ЄT PMR, tetrastyle temple with wall visible in background, lighted altar; date below. Rec Gen 13; SNG von Aulock 100. Very Fine with beautiful patina. POST YOUR Pontus, Neocaesarea OR Septimius Severus coins.
Thanks Albert, yes it was the reverse that attracted me to the coin, actually it was in another coin forum somebody showed this coin in a current auction with low bids on it.......so that was my cue.
Lovely coin, @Ancient Aussie , and a beautiful patina, indeed. I love these big provincials of Septimius Severus and his family.
That is a super coin @Ancient Aussie ! I love the patina, has great detail, and the reverse is very nice ! I like the red splotch patina, makes the temple look real marble. I am very devoid of temples and buildings in any of my coins. Mine are more gods, animals, or funky scenes. I do not have an AE of SeptSev, but I do have ONE of his issues: RI Septimus Severus 193-211 AR Denarius Genius Sacrificing (Maybe if I can tone it more, I could pass it off as an AE?)
Nice score @Ancient Aussie ! I've been looking to get a nice big provincial with a temple but so far no success... Æ27, 8,81 g. Marcianopolis Mint, Moesia Inferior Obv.: AV K Λ CEΠ CEVHPOC Rev.: V ΦΛ O ΛΠIANOV MAPKIANOΠOΛITOΛI

Great coin SA, I especially like the obverse portrait and it looks like a lot jammed into that legend...
Nice one with very good arkitechture reverse AA.. i still just have this lymes denarius of ole Sept. Sev., but i like it
