Another new purchase is another eastern denarius of Septimius Severus.

    Septimius Severus
    Denarius
Obv:– L SEPT SEVER PERT - AVG IMP VIII, Laureate head right
Rev:– MONET AVG, Moneta standing left, holding scales and cornucopiae
    Minted in Laodicea-ad-Mare. A.D. 196 - 197
Reference:– BMC 448 Note (citing Cohen 332 (no authority cited)). RIC - (cf 484(a) (rated S)). Cohen 332

This coin has the more unusual SEVER form of the obverse legend. The coin is actually in Cohen without any source cited. It isn't in RIC and is only is in BMCRE as a note, citing Cohen. This coin confirms the coin matching that originally listed in Cohen as existing and I suspect is quite scarce.

RIC and BMCRE do have this reverse type with the more usual SEV obverse legend.

    Septimius Severus denarius
Obv:– L SEPT SEV PER-T AVG IMP VII-I, Laureate head right
Rev:– MONET AVG, Moneta standing left, holding scales and cornucopiae
    Minted in Laodicea-ad-Mare. A.D. 196 - 197
    Reference:– BMC 448-9. RIC 484(a) (S). RSC cf. 332.

I am always on the lookout for the SEVER variants.

    Septimius Severus denarius
Obv:– L SEPT SEVER PERT AVG IMP VIII, Laureate head right
Rev:– VIRTVT-I AVG, Mars walking right holding spear and trophy
    Minted in Laodicea-ad-Mare. A.D. 196-197
Reference(s) – BMCRE -. RIC IV - (cf. RIC 847, an Aureus of the type). RSC -.

A very unusual obverse legend with SEVER

Hi, I have the same Moneta of Septimius Severus, but it weights 1.36 gram, while normally a denarius should be 3.41 gr. Do you think that it is a fake?

Show us the image. While we made not be able to positively authticate from an image, it may help anyway.

It would certainly be interesting to see which of the Moneta you have a match to.

Since starting this thread I have added a couple of other SEVER variants....

Obv:– L SEPT SEVER PERT - AVG IMP VIII, Laureate head right
Rev:– MINER VIC-TRIC, Minerva standing left, holding sceptre, resting right hand on shield
    Minted in Laodicea-ad-Mare. A.D. 196 - 197
    Reference:– BMCRE -. Cohen -. RIC -. RSC -.

Obv:- L SEPT SEVER P-ERT AVG IMP VII-I, Laureate head right
Rev:- VICTOR AVG, Victoria standing right, left foot on globe?, holding shield with left hand, resting on knee, inscribing with right hand
    Minted in Laodicea-ad-Mare.
Reference:– RIC 486 var. BMCRE pg. 113 var. Cohen 704 var

This is my denarius Moneta of Septimius Severus, IMP VIII.
However it weights only 1.36 g :( Usually a denarius should be 3.41 g. Is it a fake?

Based on the images alone it would appear to be genuine. I suspect that the ground conditions have leeched the copper out of the coin leading to the light weight. This will mean that the resultant coin will be brittle.
