@mgmgmg75 Magnification never lies. This is the edge at around 100x magnification and intense LED lighting. Look at that seam. Can you see it? You can even see the point where the material was introduced into the mold. The small round bright circle.

Small circle where the material flows into the mold is the "gate".

I will. Don't want to take the chance this could enter the market after I'm dead as a genuine coin. I don't think we should keep fakes around. But before I destroy it I'm taking pictures and doing tests on it to learn from it so I can educate myself and others in the future on what to be on the lookout for and how to spot it.

Thanks for the information; being new to Ancients, this post made me check out sites regarding forgeries. I learned some valuable tips regarding looking for coins on line. I hope not too late, because i just won a bid on E-bay for my first Silver denarius (Severus Alexander). In my short time buying, I've always purchased from reputable dealers I've seen being recommended here. I decided to try E-bay, hope it wasn't a mistake.

Start a new thread with images of your new purchase. Ask for everyone's opinion on it's authenticity. We all have opinions. Some good. Some bad. Wiushing you luck.

Give it a show trial then have it shot in a ditch along with it's "family" and "friends."
That should get the message across to the other forgeries!

Carausius Brother, can you spare a sestertius?

If you're new to ancients, eBay is no place for you to buy coins. Buy from established dealers until you know enough to spot the fakes that pop-up like weeds on eBay.

What is the weight of your cast fake?

Nah. I was thinking just go straight to blowing it up in an explosion or something :vamp: (preferably with some fire involved :rage:).

By "established dealers" I mean well-known, good-reputation, ancient coin specialist dealers.

Some sell on Ebay as well as other venues. Shops like FAC, HJB, and Lucerne are three that come to mind (I'm old - I don't think very quick these days).

No no no my dearest VK! If you just nuke it with out breaking it then it will still hate you in its' last seconds of life!
What you must do is break its' mind, make it confess to its crimes( for being a deceptive fake!), then make it repent and beg you to destroy it!
That is how you get results comrade VK, then you can nuke it :D

2.80g, which doesn't really raise any alarm bells. If you are relying on weight alone, it would fool you

Anyway, tomorrow I'm removing the toning to see what it looks like underneath. I'll let all of you know what I find
