Just a tip---for ya'll who are going to do this, like Bone found out....it can be $$ in postage...get a flat-rate box. I think it would be right around $8 and you can fill it with anything you can get in there for one flat rate to mail it.

Ouch! My sister sent a box to the troops but sent them to an address here in the states where they take it and turn around and ship it over there and it wasn't that $$....maybe I can find that address.

APO addresses shoudl be about the same rate as anything stateside...it all goes to a central shipping facility and then military crafted overseas to wherever

SapperNurse is right. Don't make the same (I was in a hurry) mistake by using an Overseas Priority Mail Box. Dumb Move for sure. Alas...

Why don't we just bring the troops home from this mess and then we wouldn't have to worry about shipments to APO boxes, etc.

Now, back to coins.....I do remember giving $2 to an Iraqi patient's family to pick some honey up for me from the local market.......I received $1.50 in change.

this was a quart of fresh honey......:goofer:

So giving a silver half, a silver dollar or even a clad Ike/Half, is a huge windfall for a kid....i dont see it being much different than paying informants over there like we do now.....Kids can be a great resource..

I say, stick with large clad coins, and leave the silver.....

I think clad Kennedy Halves would be a great coin to give. They are inexpensive, but distinct at the same time.

Unfortunately I agree with the posts that said that by giving the children of Iraq anything western and especially American would most probably put their whole family in danger. My buddy who was a Huey gun captain said that he got a lot of information from children with lifesavers in Vietnam. I myself prefered to give the dissenting adults a taste of steel. That said, I will support our troops however I can.

Hi Folks, it's not fair to make the moderators go in and edit each post in this thread, so I'm just closing it down. If you want to debate politics, you've already got an area to do that. Please don't let politics spill out into the public areas of the community. Thanks :)
