HA! You have to try to win the lottery ..... All I have to do is keep my grades up and I might be able to pick up one or two of them .....
Good point, my guess is that they consider them varieties. I have the Accented Hair in PR68 and the 1998-S Matte in SP69. Interestingly, they did include the Proof(P) and Reverse Proof(W) from the 2014 four piece Kennedy Silver Set. I think it's starting to become obvious that I collect Kennedy Half Dollars. I also have the two Dansko albums with the uncirculated, clad proof and silver proof coins in the albums up to date. I also have the above Kennedy Silver Proof Sets in PCGS PR69, I guess I should sell that set and maybe get money toward that 1964 PR69DCAM (no PR70 ever graded) I need for the PR70 PCGS Set completion.
I agree, Kennedy half dollars are fun to collect and I've been known to "skillfully acquire" one or two of them over the years. I do believe that Kennedy half dollars are some what a neglected series as far as collectors go, the number of collectors is small compared to other series and it is kind of sad when people you know stop collecting them. George has built a great set over the years and I understand the time and funds he has put into it. There is one set in the PCGS Registry that George is the only one to publish one hundred percent complete http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/composite.aspx?c=2034 , you will notice "VDBCoins" at the top of the list. George won one of the "Best Modern Set" awards last year for this set and he should do the same this year. I guess if you decide to sell, it is always better to do it on a high note when you are in first place. Again, sorry to see George get out of the series but I might be able to pick up a few upgrades for my set.
It's nice to hear from a fellow Kennedy Half Collector, normally when you mention that you collect them, you get jumped on and a litany of reasons why the Kennedy Half should stop being minted follows. I don't think people realize how hard it is to get a decent Proof Kennedy dated before 1971, if you want it to be cameo, and before 1968 if you don't want hairline scratches from the soft packaging.
You made me laugh Caleb! There's a LOT involving the Kennedy Sets which PCGS has created that demand answers to the "What the Hell were you Thinking" questions!! Still waiting for PCGS to come up with an Eisenhower Dollar Registry set which requires the 1976 No S BiCentennial IKE for completion!
