I will make this comment before unsubscribing this thread that seems to be getting a bit more than I would want my 10 year old daughter to read. But Craigslist selling can pose a security risk many of us don't want to take. I am sure that some of us have a difficult time getting transported to a public place to conduct business and really don't want people to know where we live. In this day and age we can unwittingly become targets. There are people who go to extreme measures to steal a lousy $50. Although eBay is not absolutely secure because we send our return address with each sale, I think it is safer than meeting or having smoeone show up at my door. Just my thoughts on it. Thanks
What is the customary wait time for a person to pay. I overlooked a coin I bought one time, and the guy I bought it from didn't contact me for about six weeks. I squared up with him. But what if you can't contact him. What then? I don't want to end up re-selling an item, only to have the original winner finally pay for it the next day?
Seven to ten days is enough time before contacting the buyer... just use eBay's "contact buyer" link and send them a reminder that payment is due. I've had some buyers slip to two weeks before making payment, but most pay within a week. It's best to send an invoice as soon as the auction is over and state your terms for payment. If you still haven't rec'd payment after a few weeks (and you've contacted the buyer without positive results), you may file a non-paying bidder claim with eBay. That usually works... but you must have patience.
FeeBay FleaBay PeeBay it's all the same. They take a big chunk out of any profit you may be lucky enough to make. Then Paypal steals some more of your money. This is why I quit selling there.
I started telling people that I needed to receive payment within 7 days of close of auction OR receipt of invoice. That if there was a problem they needed to contact to to make other arrangements. Figured that way, if someone gets paid once a month and needed time, we could work it out. But after 7 days, I will file an unpaid item dispute. Fair is fair, but sometimes people forget about it, or decide they just don't want it. You need to get it resolved by eBay before you re-list.
You can file a non payment claim after 4 days. That will get their attention, because if they don't pay that is a permanent black mark against them. I give 7 days, with 2 polite reminders during that time. After that file the claim, unless you want to run a pawn shop.
That's pretty much how I do it. I send one polite reminder and if they don't respond, I file on the 8th day.
Combined shipping problem... This is my first week of selling on ebay. I've done very well so far. I've made a lot more than what I bought them for. I got a problem, though. The first day I was selling, two buyers bought more than one item. They both asked for a discount on shipping. I told them we can work something out. They both wrote back, thanking me. Then it began. These two went on a buying spree. Since then one guy has bought six items and the other has bought over ten things, but neither has paid. I guess they're waiting so I can combine shipping, but when is enough enough? These two have bought more than half of what I've sold so far. They bought my big ticket items like my Morgans and Peace dollars, but I haven't received a dime from them. I'm trying to be fair to to everybody, but I think that these two are taking advantage of me, racking up a large quantity so they can save a bundle on shipping. What am I supposed to do? On paper, my sales look good, but my wallet is still empty.
There probably the reason you have made more than you thought. Do they have good feedback? If so I wouldnt worry about it because its going to save you money in the long run by combining the items in shipping
You may be power selling because your need/s are urgent , but that is going to cause you headaches. Change your mindset. Do not expect to be able to access the revenue from your successful auctions for 45 days. Even if you have folks who pay right away & even if you have a no return policy , the buyers can usually open a case within 45 days to get their money back. So do not think you can spend your earnings until 45 days after you have received clear payment. GO SLOW , BE PATIENT ! By the way you should start bundling your items into lots that weigh just under 13 ounces each. That way you can set a shipping & handling rate of $5.00 flat rate small box and not have to try to figure out how to combine shipping. Keep it simple.
What I do with books, is give a discount of $1.00 off the shipping charges for the 2nd item. ie: $3.99 + $3.99 - $1.00 = $6.98. For a 3rd book I discount $2.00 so the total for 3 becomes $8.97. 4 books then is $3.00 off and the 5th ships free. That way I can cover the cost of the added weight with Media mail. You might consider limiting the items than can be discounted and the time period of the purchases. I have seen other sellers that have done it that way.
how to sniff out a questionable seller First look at this eBay advertisement for an auction that is closing soon & be sure to read the seller's story of how he acquired these rolls. http://cgi.ebay.com/SHOTGUN-PENNY-C...em&pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3a5a37915b Second look at this most recent feedback left for that same seller by someone he bought something from AND VIEW THE ITEM HE BOUGHT ! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300412106977 could he really be telling the truth ?
I feel your pain here on this one. Thats why I went with sales of over $1,000 per item, so I could avoid paypal, have the hard cash in hand then deliver the item. No non-sense nothing. My favorite was rolls of toned coins. Right now I have a full rold of MS mercs and rosies with monster toning. May be a good time to hit feebay once more.
Nice catch, 99% of all unsearched wheat cent sales on ebay are scams. All of a sudden ebay is full of rolls with VBD on end. It´s like every single person that rolled cents put the 1909 VBD on the ends. But as somebody said, What ever rocks your boat.
I will tell you after my roll arrives. I won one of them. LOL I think I paid 10.75 + shipping ! If he's lying, I stand to get beat up. Since he is a newbie like me with very few sales to date, He might be telling the entire truth and I just might find something ? But I will get the "search" experience. LOL Heck, I dropped $20 in the slots last month. At least I know the roll is worth $0.50
I thought what I would do is look at the roll I bought. If it is good as stated, then maybe contact him and ask if he will offer some at a fixed price ?
