That is a very nice vignette. I think I just like the naval vessel engravings in general as MPC posted a note of his a bit ago that had an engraving of a submarine on it. Or maybe it was the space scene on the reverse that did it for me on that one who knows.
Yes, it's intaglio. Very scarce card. I've never seen it in person, although I have seen a silk handkerchief with the vignette. Not many people know that the BEP printed many souvenir hankies at these early expositions. These are even rarer than the early cards. Also intaglio.
A hankie! Now that's something to see! Silk actually takes intaglio detail extremely well but it's a very difficult material to print well without wrinkling the fabric when run under the pressure of a press. Very interesting piece to see.b
That Hankie is a rare find ,I'm sure ! I never knew you could intaglio print on a cloth meterial like this, also the vignette is fantastic, very nice .
I don't collect the actual hankies (too pricey), but I do collect images of them. I'm thinking of posting a thread -- do you think there'd be enough interest? It's kind of a niche collectible.
I do believe the interest exists even if only a dozen or so members here are ABNCo fanatics. I would appreciate seeing them! Post away...
