It is from Soghd, the mint of Samarkand and dates circa the first century AD. It is an imitation of a Seleucid type with head left on obverse and a standing archer on reverse (minus head!!). The coin is scyphate - something I only associated with Byzantine coinage. It is Hoover 512; zeno 217268 (almost exact match). I had nothing remotely similar in my collection, though I have several wide and thin AE fals from Samarkand from the 10th-13th centuries.</p><p>[ATTACH=full]1253865[/ATTACH] </p><p><br /></p><p>This is a very small "barbarous" FEL TEMP REPARATIO Falling Horseman coin (one of my main areas of collecting). The face and some lettering can be made out on the obverse.
