Not from my SS (this is a gift to myself) but wanted to share... my first Morgan I have purchased that was not holed or otherwise damaged. I had one that was holed and was purchased from a kid in my neighborhood for all of 5.00 back in the mid-90s or so. Traded it as junk silver when silver was high a few years ago for some coins and tokens I wanted, so I think I got about 30 odd dollars worth from it.

This year has been special in that I actually started purchasing a few coins to start a 7070 but all are going to be PCGS, rather than not. I decided to do this because it will be long term to make this 7070 and because with Morgans and others, many can be faked or doctored, which is why I have steered away from the Morgan series in the past twenty or more years. Doing PCGS gives me a bit more confidence my money is spent well. Also I am learning to buy the coin and not the slab, so extra money is not going to go for just being slabbed, though this was purchased with the implied confidence it really was real and it looked the grade. I plan to purchase most of mine already slabbed but there may be some that I will end up finding raw and having slabbed later. Mostly I doubt that will happen because if I slab coins it generally will be to have a better chance of selling that coin for a higher price, since I like to also occasionally sell coins. I'm not opposed to having it be that other person buy the slab before the coin or find the slabbed coin that is already graded more desirable. I think right now is somewhat of a good time to purchase some coins that are already slabbed for my personal desires because the internet has decreased some prices, and I don't think they will stay down. I think I might have to live another 30 or more years to be able to think I would even complete this 7070 though.

Though my 7070 will not be top of the registry by any means, there will occasionally be some that I will find that I can purchase that are higher graded. Probably more on the modern side. I also will not be focusing on the key dates either unless they are quite cheap. This one was chosen because I thought it looked good enough --- not too much of a dog and not expensive. Also it satisfied my wanting to have a New Orleans minted coin. And I got it for less than 50.00. I think that was money well spent.

This year was cool because not only was it the last year Morgans were minted prior until nearly two decades later (the 1921) since there was a silver shortage that caused that gap between 1905-1920 and was the last year the New Orleans minted the Morgan Dollar. It is also one that would have traded around quite frequently in the US as general coinage and since my ancestors on one side came mostly in the 1883-1892 period and the other side in 1926, this is one that would have been an year that they would have used, but maybe not so much ones issued in New Orleans, as my ancestors mostly were in the Detroit or Buffalo area. I don't know the general distribution of coinage from the various mints at that time in those areas. In today's time, it seems that Detroit gets mostly Denver issues for some reason and Buffalo gets Philadelphia for ones being shipped from the mints.

Overall, my other goal is to be able to photo these slabbed coins I get in way that pleases me so that I can view them whenever without having to go see them in my Safe Deposit Box.
