Kripes, lighten up fellows. It's Christmas, and Dan makes 'stuff', but that's what it is......'stuff'. And I like some of that 'stuff', but I don't want to see a street fight in this thread. Take it all to another thread or to the PM function.
It is not a "penny". The US Mint has never made a "penny". They only make "cents". Pennies are a UK thing.
I'm waiting still but I had to leave town until the 26th :/ I'm hoping it shows up after the 26th so it doesn't get stolen from my mailbox or something ha
They are fantasy coins. They offer a unique opportunity to own a created coin that looks like a real one, but has a feature that is not found in real coins, i.e. a 'minting year' that the coins they were based on were never minted. And they are minted on formerly minted real coins. In this case, it is a '2009' Lincoln cent, and probably minted on pre-1982 cents. In many ways this type of thing is similar in action to elongated cents, only these are the same shape as a real cent and look new. He is not minting new money, but recycling old coinage and some others appreciate it. There is no counterfeiting going on. They can be considered numismatically related, so they fit in here as gifts.
I think I am going to open my SS gift right nowwww! Be back in a few minutes! I can’t wait. Oh! I love my SS gifts! Thank you Secret Santa! Here is my loot! Three coins! And a lovely note sending me blessings! Lovely! Thank you. Not in order in which they are loved by me, here they are: This beautiful (think it is one of those red cents) and looks uncirculated or nearly uncurculated 1958 D wheat cent. I will have to see if i am missing anything else about this coin because I have not thought about wheats much lately although I love them very much. Then this a beautiful Mercury dime. I did not have one and am glad to have received this. Thanks Santa! And, yes! Now I know which of the three is my favorite. It is this next one. The 1950 French coin - 20 Francs. It has a lovely lady on the front and a proud rooster on the reverse. Yep! This is my fave! Thannnk youuu, Santa! Edited to ask: Is there some hub doubling going on on the obverse of my wheat cent? I must get a better look and a better shot. Will post later or over the weekend.
MINE CAME!! And of course, I had to open it right away, lol. Santa really outdid himself this year! First, he must have known I like errors/varieties. He gave me this nice 1970-S Cent with a repunched mint mark. Next, he gave me this beautiful 1944-D 10 Centavos from the Philippines. I never even knew about these, but I love the design. It is gorgeous! - - - - - - And I saved the best for last. Santa knew I am a gold guy. No way he could get me a gold coin, right? WRONG! Wow! He sent this gold coin from Liberia!! Thank you Santa! - - - - - - - - - - - - He also gave a nice card, and shipped it from somewhere in CO. Hmmm. I had fun researching each of these coins, and I might have fun researching all of the Santas that live in CO... haha. Thanks again for the great gifts!!!
WOW @jwitten! That was well worth waiting for, right? Yes, It may be fun to see if we can figure out who our SS is. I think I have an idea who mine is!! I need to hurry up and finish with my chores so I can look at my wheat cent more closely! Everyone has received such great gifts! And Kirkuleez has done a wonderful job! Thanks @Kirkuleez!
That’s officially the first gold to make it into the exchange. And I know who your Santa was, but my lips are sealed.
Got IT! let me pour a drink, and light up a cigar and get my camera ready! shake reveled nothing, and holding it to the light no help.
