Lovely, lovely girls (and also Liam, who we didn't see)). May God Bless. Budding collectors/numismatists for sure.........
BOb, you are the devil.....sending me CT Viagra last year. M&M's but they looked like the real deal and you know what? They worked......
I opened mine a few days ago (shocker, I know) and I have to say thank you Santa! I was very spoiled.
Great gifts everybody! Opened mine today and am very excited. Got a book on fire varieties and an assortment of coins/tokens. Thanks secret Santa!
You should have a tree with those presents Oh I cannot stand Jim Carey... worst person to have as a main character in any Christmas movie.... I have seen the original Grinch twice... (3 times if you count my grandmother )and Frosty once...... just not the same the last couple years... even Hallmark and Hallmark Movie Channel haven't had the movies on like they used to.
The only thing Jim Carey did that I truly liked was the idiot fire marshal on "In Living Color" 20 years ago.
I opened my SS package this morning and would like to thank him for the nice coins and nice letter! I appreciate the efforts he took to determine what I collect and <um> accumulate! He selected for me 2 1970 Australian 50-cent coins, a 1952 Washington Carver/Booker T Washington half and an 1865 2-cent coin. All are touches on coins and areas that I have posted about before! Thank you! I am also happy to see that my recipient seems to have enjoyed what I selected for him. This was my second SS with CoinTalk and I'm happy that we have a community that can make this work. Rob
It's truly my pleasure to do this the past couple of years, but I would be remissed not to mention @Cazkaboom who started it all and laid the foundation for the exchange that we now have. It's amazing the generosity of CT members. Every year a group of faceless friends get together from countries all across the world to exchange gifts to each other and often, many of them contact me to offer additional gifts if someone gets left out. This is what the holidays are all about, and the truest form of the spirit that I can imagine. This has been a very difficult year for me loosing my mother a couple of months ago, a great friend a week later and my next door neighbor and favorite aunt a week after that. Heartbreak always has a chance to heal during the holidays if you can witness the true joy of the season and this has been my experience here. I hope you all understand how much I appreciate this exchange and the CT community as a whole; any given day, many friends are at my fingertips. It's good to know you all and I look forward to many more years of the exchange, arguments, laughs and of course the eye candy. God bless and happy holidays.
Thank you again Kirk, hope you and you Son had a great Christmas, maybe i get him to drift to the dark side. Looks like we had a great turn out, so many great gifts you all are awesome here on CT.
I held out and made it to Christmas morning. The package was nicely gift wrapped and you could tell much time and care went into it. Inside I found a vintage Morgan dollar album, 1921-S silver dollar, 1910 barber dime and a 1936-S fs501 buffalo! I would like to thank the Santa who sent this. I love the album and the coins. They brought much cheer and excitement for me on Christmas Day!
I had to leave town unexpectedly but got to my gift tonight. Sorry for the poor photo... Thank you so much Secret Santa! Got a wonderful pair of dollar, dimes, and cents from 2007 and a sweet medal made from spacecraft! The cents are developing some nice colors and I really love the medal. You nailed it Santa! I'll have better pictures shortly, but I'm too tired to take better ones right now.
Opened mine late at night on Christmas. Didn't get a chance to photo it until yesterday a Daniel Carr prototype Maine quarter. A very nice cat drawing. And some auction catalogs which I love for research. Thank you so much!!
Here what The real Santa should have left. For years of eating his cookies and milk half time it was warm. Yea but wish rarely happen. Didn't 2015. It's Babe Ruth's watch 1927 I think but hex would mind when or what one.
My secret santa gift was the one I opened up on Christmas eve, and it made my night! There was a thoughtful handwritten note, accompanied by: A Christmas themed ounce of fine silver, because who doesn't love silver? And if that wasn't awesome enough, some really interesting Kossuth promissory notes. Lajos Kossuth, known as the father of Hungarian democracy, was an important Hungarian revolutionary leader (and briefly, President of Hungary) in the late 1840s. He was exiled after the revolution against Austrian rule was lost in 1849, after which he made his way to the United States as an honored dignitary. To help fund his (ultimately unsuccessful) attempts to rule from exile and return to power, he had a couple sets of promissory notes printed in New York and Philadelphia. My secret santa found for me a pair of remainder notes from the 1852 Philadelphia print run. These promissory notes are for 1 and 2 silver forints (equivalent to a silver dollar). The most interesting thing about these notes is that they have 4 and 8 cent US Champion of Liberty stamps commemorating Lajos Kossuth, with first date of issue cancellations bearing the small coat of arms of Hungary. It's something exciting I've not seen before on these remainders, with a great connection to Kossuth and beautiful stamps and cancellations! These are fantastic additions to my Hungarian currency collection. Thanks santa!
I really like those notes! And I'm glad you put some historical background with them. I didn't know any of the history there.
Wow! All I can say is that Santa must have had a bumpy ride once he left New York! It looks like a bunch of other gifts bounced out of their packages and into mine! Christmas was a frenzy this year! My first opened package was Christmas Eve...sorta (at 6am, it's still Eve Day, right? ) It was my Cointalk Secret Santa Gift! After that, family started calling, and arriving - and all throughout the weekend it was one visit after the next. I had to get to work to relax on Monday! I finally got some time to photograph it all and write. First and foremost - I started a new book! I've been working on my Whitman's volume 2 of WL Half Dollars, and I've had an empty Volume 1 sitting next to it for some time. Well, I got a 1919 WL Half and it now holds the first place in my collection of WL Halfs Vol1. I also got 2 series of quarters - a 1926 Standing Liberty, and a 1962 Washington which appears to be MS++++++++ (+++!) And to top it off, a 1oz Indian Buffalo silver round and a Commemorative Theodore Roosevelt copper round with the bald eagle on the reverse! Here is what my WL Half collection looks like now. THANK YOU SANTA!!! (bok! bok!)
I can think of a few who haven't posted yet, but they aren't here very often. Hopefully they will post when they get a chance. Hint hint.
