Is there really a reason to do so, though, for a hobbyist (or anyone)? A clashed coin speaks for itself, in my opinion.
I had purchased at auction two slabbed coins that needed to be re-holdered and number by ANACS so sent in the clashed SBA at same time. You are correct a clashed coin speaks for itself. The only slabbed coins I have are either brought thru auction or collections I buy. Thanks for your correct opinion.

Sending coins in for grading can get to be an expensive aspect of this hobby very quickly. I was looking at a nice raw Type one buffalo nickle the other week at the Melville coin show and had to add the fact that I know I was going to send it in, into my final cost.
