Thanks. Personally, if I had to buy a details coin to fill a hole or complete a collection till a better specimen turned up, i would choose number 3 as the toning disguises much of the dipping effects, just looks better to the eye IMO
#2 & #3 are still nice coins....#1 since it was whizzed and tooled was only purchased to have a specimen in hand to someone and see their responce...more of a learning tool than everything else. The mid 1860 half dimes were low mintages....take a look at an 1867....well find 1 first. I would love to complete this collection and im not the fill the hole type...im more a variety hunter .....and quite a few of my h 10s are thhe varieties I've hunted well except 1 the 1858 inverted date...well. I found 1 and was broke so Nathan401 grabbed it.....i really enjoy my cap bust half dimes. It is complete 1829-1837 working on all the die marriages now. I have lost count on how many are in the collection but just this weekend realized I needed another 18 slabs to self slab those and list them.
Yes, they are beauties, will be one heck of an achievement when you complete it. When you do i hope you post it so many others can get some idea of the dedication involved to contemplate achieving such a set.
I grew up o the Chesapeake bay..So boats and the water has been a huge part of my life . In my younger days In college I was captain of the sailing team. Most of my friends had speed boats or fishing boats, all would get up and go.But going fast is one thing... to me half of the pleasure was the experence getting there... and.. I will use that same principal here...yeah you can go full speed ahead in collecting...or you can enjoy the ride. I prefer the ride....You cant enjoy anything if life is in the fast lane. Many have tried many have been disapointed. Just like sailing a boat ...collecting coins like a fine wine need to be appreciated If you swill it down in one gulp..Your missing so much! There's nothing better than a full sail running down wind..Just like walking a show One must enjoy the hunt..and hold a steady course. There is nothing like a 40 foot sail boat under way and youre at the helm. Coin Collecting is the same to me , im at the helm , as I navigate the coin show. Staying my course looking for the varieties Ive read about. Then when found ...putting on a poker face...until the happy dance out the door.
