See! You still won't answer my question. What are you trying to hide? Are you afraid to admit that I wasn't wrong in the first place? I'm not defending them. I'm just fed up with the whiners who think the banks owe them something for nothing. You're disappointed when you don't find anything of value. You're put out when the banks start charging extra fees. Now, you think the rolls should be in perfect condition. If each roll has the correct amount in it, then that is all that should matter. What will it be next? Maybe you think the banks and/or the suppliers should design a new coin-rolling machine that won't damage the end coins. Yeah, you're one of them! Otherwise, you wouldn't have started this thread in the first place. Chris
Whether the count is actually right or not was not my point, I didn't post to say "maybe I got shorted". Never once have I "whined" here, about the banks owing me something for nothing, or anything else, but obviously you have a different agenda here and chose to direct your frustrations towards me. Why Chris? Because I CRH? Now you're a self proclaimed authority about my expectations and motives? The more you say the clearer it becomes how little of a clue you have. You don't realize that you've got the wrong guy here, or aren't mature enough to either admit it or at least just shut up. I go to the banks and ask them for a service that they are willing to provide, they have control of all the terms of the transaction and I comply with them. They know I'm hunting and still they smile and say "hope to see ya next week!" It's good customer service. So really? Your position is that when for the first time after years, multiple boxes from different sources show up with unusual signs of tampering, it's inappropriate to put it out there and ask others if they've seen anything similar or maybe it's an isolated case? That make me a whiner? And what's that got to do with expecting something for nothing? Yeah you're very smart Chris with you're profound revelation 5 years ago... Do you really think that's when your 'problem' started becoming a 'burden' to the banks? CRH was much more prevalent 50 years ago when silver and wheaties were still a common find, yet banks have survived just fine all these decades. Chris, I didn't answer your question before for soooo many reasons. It was and still is irrelevant to the purpose of my post. I didn't even know the answer because I hadn't counted. The tone of your comments didn't deserve that I even dignify it with a response. Contrary to some others advise, I kept the box to search for varieties and other interesting finds because that's what I do. Maybe you're surprised that I'm not just tearing through thousands of coins looking for silver, dumping mass quantities on the bank, and complaining I didn't find enough? Yes it's nice to find silver too, the more the better. and you're right about one thing... I am disappointed when I don't find anything of value. Very intuitive of you! But it's hope not expectation that keeps me coming back. So now I've gone through the rolls, didn't find much this time, better luck next time. Let me answer your question now: This type of deception probably wouldn't have gone undetected if these rolls were handled individually, but when packed in a 'sealed' box... Strange that only 3 rolls out of all the tampered ones were like this, makes me wonder if the perpetrator just replaced the silver he found with nickels because he didn't have any unrolled halves. He coulda at least used quarters!
Deception? What deception? How were you deceived? See! You're getting closer to admitting what I alleged in the first place. By the way, if this is what you call "answering my question" then you would make a pretty good politician. No! I don't like any politician who can't answer a simple question with a simple answer. Chris
So my post has become about your allegation, your question, and your need to be right. Your question: An abundantly clear answer: Since the answer doesn't support your ranting, you find it more convenient to take issue with how I answered than have anything more substantive to say. There's no reasoning with you, at this point you're just arguing nonsense for sport or you're afflicted by some intellectual disconnect. Doesn't matter, either way I'm done wasting anymore time with you Chris. I strongly suspect that you've got an endless circle of irrational comments left in you though so now's your chance to satisfy your compulsion for the last word....
I'll have to admit that you got me on that one because I didn't even notice the photos. Score one for you! Chris
In the opening post, there is no picture of any shorted rolls. Perhaps the thread is intended to be click bait. The problem with the internet is that users can remain anonymous to other users and then make false claims at will. Typical CRH behavior is to open boxes as quickly as is possible. The average person would rush back to the bank and report a possible fraud. Yet, here we are arguing about it on the internet instead. I rest my case.
I tend to disagree. Why would anyone make this up? What is the OP going to gain from lying? It is not like he is making money. I believe you vintagemintage and I feel bad for you.
I don't doubt that the OP is legit. The point is, if he paid $500 and received 1000 half dollars, he has no complaint. Is it a drag for a CRHer to get a box that appears to have been searched and resealed, thus lowering the chances to finding something good almost to zero? Yes. But there's no guarantee, or agreement that the box he is getting is "unsearched". If the bank is giving you $500 in halves, for your $500, then they have upheld their end of the agreement. They are not in business for you to glean valuable coins out of every box at their expense.
You're correct, the opening post picture only shows evidence of tampered rolls, not shorted rolls. I opened that box just before I had to leave for work but posted before I left, since this was the third box I've seen like this recently. The previous 2 contained similar uncrimped rolls but when I searched those coins I didn't find any shortages and wrongly assumed this box was whole too. I didn't realize it was short until halfway through searching it this morning, so I don't have much of a case with the bank now either, but I'll make them aware that there's a problem. The ensuing argument was... I'll just say, unanticipated. I just wanted to know if sealed boxes containing tampered (and I'll add now, shorted) rolls have been noticed by others.
I don't believe that there are many (or any?) CRH'ers who do expect a guarantee of unsearched rolls. When the industry's standard practice is to package coins in machine crimped rolls that offer some degree of confidence, we can at least hope there may be finds inside. It is admittedly disappointing to discover rolls that were likely already searched, but that by no means equates to feeling entitled. And I think that the banks, merchant customers, and the public at large would all raise an eyebrow to open a fresh box of coins and find a mix of opened and sealed rolls with different brands packaged together like this box and 2 others I've seen recently... They just don't normally come like this and I'm a bit surprised that some feel this is good practice, acceptable regardless of packaging as long as the count is right. After all, now how can anyone be sure without counting them.
I, as a bank teller, encountered a situation similar to the OP's last fall. We didn't go through many halves, and had no CRH'ers. We did usually keep a box of halves on hand that was pieced out to customers a roll or two here or there as requested. This one particular box that we had just opened had rolls that all looked just like the OP's box, and although they were in $10 rolls, they were all in dollar coin wrappers (said $25 DOLLARS on them). So my manager made us open all of them and re-wrap in the correct wrappers, otherwise we would not pass muster on an audit. No complaints...we pulled out 7 40%ers.
It is quite possible that some banks have 2 tiers of coin exchange. For businesses or account holders that pay for the specific bulk coin service to only get Loomis,String, or Guarda sealed counted coin rolls; and keep partial boxes and rolls for the other customers if they request rolls of coins. My bank does this informally already.
I feel bad for him he got shorted 20 dollars. Money does not grow on trees. Oh and I'll ask for an edit if I need to.
