Scary indian head cent. Fake or rare?

  1. thanks for the great info Russ. I'm probably just going to hold on to it. I've got a few other coins over the past few weeks that I didn't really score on as far as resale, but I like them anyway. I think I'll throw them into my massively depleted due to winter layoff dansco 7070 type set.

    That dime (or is it a half?) looks to have a nice RPD. Maybe in the next decade I will get into seated varieties.
     
  4. Yeah it's a cherry picker variety half dime. I paid all the money for it in a Craigslist deal though. I made an appointment with a guy who was supposedly a recently retired collector looking for some extra cash selling some of his collection. He ended up being a shady dealer I think fleamarket type. He had hundreds of indian head, almost every one of them with that old underlying polished brightness under toning. I picked 9 coins that didn't appear to have been totally cleaned and paid what they were worth, but that's why I gate craigslist. If I didn't buy anything it would've been a big waste of time.
