I believe with the secure plus holders they also take a picture of the coin, thus making it harder to use the same slab number on multiple fake slabs???? I could be wrong though....

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

How long have they been shipping coins out of the US for slabbing? Is this something new?

They don't ship them out of the US. The shells are produced in China. They are graded and sealed inside the US.

That was meant to be in reference to the "China man" thing, and an addition to what you were saying earlier about their being crooks in the states too. I should have been more clear. It's just sad that for many, the common assumption is that everything fake automatically comes from China.

March of 2010. Secure Plus takes a digital scan of both sides of each coin and stores it. Any coin resubmitted through SP is easily identified. And doctoring can be ID'd.

Soon after the "Big One" was announced PCGS introduced The Sniffer. It is used on all SP submissions to detect foreign substances used to improve the appearance of a coin. Putty, nose grease, and treatments like Blue Ribbon and Coin Care are detected.

Along with the above PCGS began plus grading.

Many question the value of SP, especially given the backdoor of an ordinary submission that bypasses digital fingerprinting, sniffing, etc. Some like the idea that stolen coins can be identified. But really...with the holes in the process...it isn't that effective, IMO.
