Saw chaos at a coin show today.

Today I set up at a coin show in Indianapolis (depending on where you live, you may have seen me there), and sales-wise it was one of the best I've had up there, partially because of a 1/10 oz Gold Eagle I traded silver for, which pushed total sales to a little over $1600. With the coins I have (mostly $20 and under), that's well above the average.

Was gonna take pictures like I do with outdoor flea markets but totally forgot to as the table was swarmed like bees today, which is a really good thing.

I got to take a picture of the front of the Eagle before selling it; the piece in the picture was the first Gold Eagle I've owned in at least a few months. I think gold stands out a lot at my table compared to ones who regularly deal in bullion, which I think may be part of why I can't keep it when I put it out for display, even if it's at a slightly higher price than gold dealers.

Part of the sale of the Eagle was for an 1836 half dollar in VF condition (looks cleaned though). I can post pictures of that later if it doesn't go before then.

I finally got some 2026 dimes! I bought about 15 D's for $0.50 each and sold 2 for $1 each soon after. Until I find them roll hunting, getting a few to have on hand is the right move in my eyes.

Even more chaotic though? For the first time since I started going to that specific show in September of 2024 (it's a monthly show), I witnessed a thief. At one of the world coin tables across the building, an older man wearing something flourescent green (wasn't a shirt, I have no idea what you'd call it but it was partly over his shirt) lifted a Jamaican silver proof set worth about $200.

A bunch of people went out there to try to stop him, including the show's chairman. The thief was walking in a straight line, ignoring everyone who was talking to him. Thankfully he was caught and the proof set was returned to the dealer. I'm glad I wasn't the dealer the set got stolen from, but it's still a perfect representation of what could happen on a whim.

I started packing up quickly after. Business had slowed down, and the thief had kinda shot my blood pressure up, so I was ready to go.

I'm gonna go have some supper now. I'm kinda hungry.

Nice to hear you did well. That thief sounds pretty wild. Do you mean he just picked up the proof set and began walking out in plain sight of everybody? Was he just confused or was he really trying to get away with someone else's property?
