What a beautiful grip of coins you have right there. I have picked up 3 of those myself this year! The Scipio Asiagenus, the Piso and plenty of Gallienus (though none as cool as yours...nor nearly the savings)!
as you can see, my Piso is not a denarius but rather a quinarius (making it considerably less expensive and smaller then the beauty you posted). Sadly, I paid about what you did for a much less desirable Scipio. Though I am still very happy to have one in my collection You my friend have a gift of negotiations, patience, or more than likely both!
Way cool on the ASAG. Love the big-as 'S' on your obverse also. Mine is ASIAG - as he invented that yummy ASIAGO CHEESE... sorry, just had to do that at your expense! Thank you for posting those, both nice coins! I especially like the quinarius, I have far too few of them. They may be cheaper, but they're also scarcer, esp. compared to the denarii of the same 90 BCE issue. (I believe it's not the same Piso, yours is the Frugi branch, mine the Caesoninus.) My main bargain-finding method is to place a lot of cheap bids in a lot of (non-ebay) auctions. But as I indicated in the OP, will need to place fewer, cheaper bids next year...
So cheesy! Nice coin though. (And no cheese for me. Asago cheese? Never heard of it...) As for the misspelling, I have found two with the same mistake on acsearch, one of which appears to be a double die match (though I haven't checked it carefully).
