I found this little round of silver and couldn't pass it up.
Sandon was a booming town located in the Slocan valley, Nelson B.C. Once named the Monte Carlo of North America. It was in 1891 that rich deposits of Lead and Silver ore were found and placed the little mining town on the map. There were two booms in Sandon the first 1890's and the second during WWll when the majority of the mines in the area were taken over by Viola MacMillan , till about the 60's -70's. when the resources were exhausted. In its hay day Sandon had 29 hotels, 28 saloons, a massive red-light district, and a population of over 5,000 people. The most known was the Virginia, destroyed in a fire, early 1900's

The areas mines produced about 1.4 million kg of silver, 184,000 tonnes of lead, 122,000 tonnes of zinc, and 170 kg of gold were produced from mines in the area (6). Cadmium was also produced.
These tokens were produced in the 70's I think as an income for the historical society.
