I never said that a living creature might open the safe; therefore, electric machinery may open it. The general idea behind my initial words was that "people" shouldn't force something that does not pertain to them. If someone places a safe behind a wall, that could be because the person doesn't desire for someone to open it.
I own terrain in a rural area of southern Florida. While metal detecting, I found a coffin. Should I have opened it? Well, I never opened it...I simply covered it again.

 

That is like comparing Apples and Oranges. It was ridiculously immature to say what you said about hopefully it explodes. I would expect stuff like that on redit, but not here on Cointalk.

 

I would think the Feds have already opened it if there was a murder involved.

Think about it, if you found and old safe believing it was full of cash, would you have a camera rolling, for the tax man to see as your counting your hundreds or thousands or would you keep your mouth shut and open the safe discreetly.

I know what I would do, and there would not be cameras filming it.

 

$1000 cash, a picture of his family, a cuban cigar, a bottle of "Dom Perignon", and .44 Revolver...... Oh and some deeds to the property.

 

Rush, no good ever comes from something you have to be sneaky about.. that's just my opinion, sorry. If there is something inside that is on the up and up, maybe there are relatives of the original owner who may be interest in the contents.

And I don't hope it blows up when opened.

Sounds like the makings of a movie to me..

I don't think opening a found safe on your property and doing what you want with the contents is sneaky or immoral. Perhaps if body parts or guns were inside, then yes, I would phone the authorities and let them handle it.
I think your comments are demeaning and a little over the top.

 

Aw for Petes sake, open the bloody safe, and for the guy who found the coffin on his property in SW Florida, notify the proper authorities.......

 

I think, legally, the contents should be reported. Think of it this way:

If someone wanted to steal something, then once they felt they were out of the "hot zone" of being discovered, and the case has run cold, they could then "find a safe" in a wall on the premises of a "newly acquired property" or something. Stolen items, whether found days or decades after the fact, are stolen. The contents of the safe should be registered with the local police to verify that they weren't reported as stolen prior to discovery.

 

I'll say an empty safe with an IOU or the last owners marker.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that metal wall studs were'nt the norm for he late 60's. Not even sure if they had been invented by that time. Someone older than me (42), and with construction experience will need to chime-in on this one ..
